Thames Materials raised an amazing £38,382.52 at their Charity Golf Day on 8th July 2016 held at the Buckinghamshire Golf Course in Denham.

This event was run in the memory of the company’s office manager, Sheila Melvin (Gomes), who died in May 2014. This year, the proceeds were donated to Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC)
in Uxbridge where Sheila was treated and The Alzheimer’s Society – a charity close to heart of Thames Materials.

The Lynda Jackson Centre in Northwood, who rely on charitable donations for the majority of its funding provide a drop-in centre, telephone helpline, counselling and complementary therapies for patients and their families.

Over 850,000 people live with dementia in the UK alone with numbers predicted to rise to over two million by 2051. The Alzheimer’s Society provides information and support for people with all forms of dementia and those who care for them.

Twenty teams, mostly fielded by customers of Thames Materials, took part in the day which included a great day of golf, a dinner with prize giving and a Charity Auction. Prizes at the auction included rounds of Golf at Wentworth/Wisley/The Grove (all fantastic courses), a Penthouse in Spain for a week, Club Wembley Tickets, ASCOT tickets and use of a box there.

Martin Clarke, the MD, said, “Everyone was incredibly generous and we are delighted to have been able to support two charities this year. It was an emotional event as we all paid tribute to our colleague. We, of course, could not do this without the support of Sheila’s family, our customers, families and friends along with the staff at TML who work tirelessly to make the day so successful. We look forward to seeing more teams next year!”
