The new football season couldn’t come quickly enough for one Ealing team.

The Pitshanger U15B team has been waiting months for some competitive action, since the club made the decision to form a second team for this age group.

With a full squad competing for places in the ‘A’ team, and other boys looking to join all the time, there seemed to be a strong demand for another team.

But the club was surprised by the huge response when it held open training sessions for boys looking to join up.

“Most weeks we had twenty to thirty lads joining us for a kick-around in Pitshanger Park,” says ‘B’ team coach Pete Hoban.

“The news just seemed to go around by word of mouth, as the boys told their friends, and more kept turning up.

“It just goes to show how much boys in this age group want to play football rather than just watching it on TV, or playing it on their games consoles.”

The squad for the ‘B’ team was chosen weeks ago, but it was too late to register the new team for a league last season.

Until now, they’ve had to be satisfied with friendly matches. But with the paperwork completed for the 2011/12 season, a sponsor secured, and the new kit issued, the boys have begun their campaign in the Harrow Sunday League.
